Jacob’s Third Bama Bird

This morning we decided to head a place where we had been seeing and hearing 4 long beards together almost every morning. Â Every time we hunted them they do the exact same… Â Gobble early, fly down early and always go in the opposite direction of our calling. Â The good news was there was another bird that was gobbling good in a different directoin and we went after him.
We could still hear the 4 gobbling in the distance when we set up on the bird by himself. Â He gobbled good off the limb but once he flew down he found his hens quick and walked the other way without saying a word. Â We kept hearing the four in the distance and they kept answering our calls and seemed to be coming our direction. Â We stayed on the same tree but just turned around and faced the other direction. Â Within 20 minutes they were right on top of us and Jacob poked the strutter at 45 yards with a 3 1/2″ Nitro.
What we learned: Â Sometimes turkeys are in the mood sometimes they aren’t. Â Many times it can be hard to work a big group of long beards like these because it seems that they are more concerned about each other and staying together than coming to a hen. Â If you can get one to commit, they will all usually all commit.Â
