The morning after Philip and Donnie’s kill. Jacob got set up on a bunch of gobbling birds roosted just on the edge of a field. Donnie got behind Jacob again just like the first hunt and started calling lightly.
Just as good daylight started to break, a long beard jumped off the limb and landed 20 yards from Jacob. Within seconds, four more long beards were down and looking for what they thought was a hen. Philip gave Jacob the go ahead and Jacob shot the strutter at 20 yards.
What we learned: When you set up on a bird in a field, if it is a fairly small field, set up on the opposite side. Usually, the bird will land closer to the opposite side of the field.
