Philip’s first Merriam

After tagging out in Kansas, Philip and Jacob packed up and headed to South Dakota. Just as they got to where they were supposed to meet up with a guy to show them where to hunt, he called and said he was stuck back home in Alabama and wasn’t going to be able to make the trip.
With nowhere to hunt and no one to ask advice from, Jacob and Philip found the closest John Deere store and went to see if they could find a farmer who hated turkeys. The first person they found just so happened to have 6,000 acres of river-bottom and absolutely hated turkeys. He handed over the key and said have fun.
The next morning Philip was literally set up on the same tree as a group of long beards. When the sun came out, they pitched down and hit the ground 30 yards in front of him. Jacob got about 2 minutes of footage and Philip had his first Merriam!
What we learned: Don’t be afraid to go out and ask farmers for permission to hunt when you don’t have a place to go. Find a place where farmers might hang out for during the day. (Old restaurant or tractor supply store…)
